Two former students from the Raunser lab where honored in this year’s Academic Graduation Ceremony at the TU Dortmund. Verena Kunig received the year’s Best Student award in Chemical Biology. She did her Masters in Stefan Raunser’s lab, where she was working on the structural and functional characterization of ADP-Ribosyltransferases that play an important role in toxin injection by the insect pathogen Photorhabdus luminescens. Verena is now doing her PhD in the group of Dr. Brunschweiger at the TU Dortmund.

Julian von der Ecken, former PhD Student and Postdoc in the Raunser lab, was awarded the Dissertation Prize in Physics. During his PhD he was able to determine high-resolution structures of muscle proteins and their interactions by using Cryo-electron microscopy. In August Julian joined point8, a TU Dortmund spin-off that supports companies and institutions with data analysis, machine learning and simulations.

We sincerely congratulate the awardees and wish them every success in their future!
