Prof. Dr. Dr. h.c. Herbert Waldmann delivered the 38th Paul Karrer Lecture on “How natural products can inspire chemical biology and medicinal chemistry” at the University of Zurich the 6th of June. He received the prestigious Paul Karrer Gold Medal for his developments in the field of chemical biology.

The prestigious Paul Karrer Lecture and Gold Medal were established in honour to noble laureate Paul Karrer in 1959. Between the first lecture and today there have been more than fifty years of exciting and pioneering developments in the field of organic chemistry and the thereby influenced related fields, such as molecular biology and structural biochemistry. Evidence of these developments is documented by the lectures of the recipients of the Paul Karrer Medal who were chosen over the course of these 50 years. Among the recipients are thirteen Nobel Prize winners for chemistry and for medicine and they have represented nearly all important research institutions of Europe and the USA.
