Here, the Vader lab provide insight into the roles of Pch2, a generally conserved AAA+ ATPASE, and its connection to Hop1, a HORMA domain-containing client protein, in the meiotic prophase checkpoint.
Pch2 and Hop1 collaborate to mediate general meiotic prophase checkpoint function.
Pch2 can both activate or silence the checkpoint, analogous to Pch2/TRIP13-Mad2 module in the mitotic spindle assembly checkpoint that monitors chromosome segregation.
