First sustainable ”Green Lab“ at the MPI
Stefan Raunser's laboratory is one of the first two laboratories within the Max Planck Society to be certified as a sustainable Green Lab with silver by My Green Lab.
My Green Lab certification is a proven, scalable program that helps scientific organizations achieve their sustainability goals. It involves researchers in a proven sustainability process that is supported by a global community of Green Lab Leaders.
The My Green Lab certification has been recognized by the UN Race to Zero campaign as an important measure of progress towards a carbon-free future and is considered the global gold standard for best practices in laboratory sustainability.
To achieve certification, the lab's researchers were first surveyed on a range of topics (purchasing of consumables, work-related travel, wet laboratories, energy use, green chemistry, etc.). The answers were analyzed and evaluated.
