Joint Vocational Training of Laboratory Technicians
State-of-the-art technical training
To provide highly qualified vocational training, as close as possible to ongoing research - that is the aim of an as yet unique training initiative which the Max Planck Institute of Molecular Physiology offers in conjunction with the Technical University of Dortmund, the Leibniz Research Centre for Working Environment and Human Factors (IfADo) and the Leibniz Institute for Analytical Sciences (ISAS Dortmund) (ISAS). The MPI Dortmund guides and coordinates the training.
The initiative proved successful: Ten young people are trained every 3 years. The largest part of the practical training takes place in the MPI research groups. The Institute of Occupational Physiology covers the fields of Cell Culturing and Analytical Chemistry. Further stations of the three-and-a half year training programme are at the Technische Universität Dortmund in Biological-Chemical Microstructure Technology and Technical Microbiology and at the Institute for Analytical Sciences in the Department of Metabolomics. The theoretical part of the training takes place at the Hellweg Vocational College Unna. Moreover, the Institute is providing professional training in two other professions. Our central facility Computation-Electronic Data Processing is training an IT specialist for systems integration and our Administration is training an office clerk.
