June 22, 2022

On 21.06.2022, the best biology high school graduates in NRW were awarded the Karl-von-Frisch Prize by the VBIO at a ceremony at the MPI Dortmund.

For the first time since the start of the Covid19 pandemic, it was possible again to award the Karl von Frisch Prize at a ceremony at the Max Planck Institute for Molecular Physiology in Dortmund. 52 of the best high school graduates and their accompanying persons were welcomed by Prof. Gabriele Pfitzer (Chair of the LV-NRW in VBIO). Afterwards, they were given an insight into the science of the MPI. The two doctoral students Patrick Günther and Julia Schweighöfer reported on their career starting with the bachelor's and master's degree, how they have chosen their doctoral topic and what it takes to do a Phd. After handing out the certificates and the prize bag with a book gift, Dr. Christian Schröter (research group leader in the Department of Systemic Cell Biology at the MPI) gave the keynote speech with the topic "Embryonic stem cell - allrounder in the culture dish".
