Former MPI Director Prof. Dr Kinne receives the Federal Cross of Merit
 

Dortmund's Mayor Thomas Westphal has awarded the Federal Cross of Merit of the Federal Republic of Germany to Prof. Dr. Dr. h.c. mult. Rolf Kinne, the former director of the MPI (1983 - 2005). Rolf Karl-Heinz Kinne's decades of commitment to science and research have earned him merits worthy of distinction, and he has contributed greatly to shaping the scientific landscape of the Ruhr region, especially in Dortmund. He worked for many years on the board of the Dortmund Foundation, was the initiator and chairman of windo, the working group of scientific institutions in Dortmund, and was the head of the liaison office of the University Alliance Metropolis Ruhr ConRuhr in New York. For his scientific achievements, Prof. Dr. Kinne received, among other awards, an honorary professorship from Heinrich Heine University in Düsseldorf and an honorary doctorate from the University of Naples in Italy.
