The 4th international SPHIRE Workshop

The 4th international Workshop on the software suite SPHIRE took place from the 11th – 13th June 2018 at the Max Planck Institute of Molecular Physiology.

With more than 30 participants, exciting lectures, detailed hands-on sessions and discussions about the new Version 1.0 of the software suite SPHIRE for High-Resolution single particle EM, it was a very lively atmosphere in which the program developers and scientists met and practiced the processing and analysis of cryoEM data. New was the introduction into crYOLO, a new process for automated particle tracking and SORT3D, a novel 3D sorting program based on novel concepts of reproducibility.

The high performance software suit SPHIRE for easy access to cryo electron microscopy was developed by the Raunser Group and the Penczek Group (UTHealth) in a collaborative effort. SPHIRE is a completely reworked version of the cryo-EM image processing package SPARX and is open source and online since fall 2016.

In a visually appealing and easy-to-use graphical user interface (GUI) the user will find an array of programs which will guide through the complete process of high-resolution cryo-EM, which includes movie frame alignments, reproducible initial model generation, the 3-D sorting of different conformational states and more.
