Cellular proteins exhibit complex lysine acylation patterns, that are reversed by a small set of substrate promiscuous lysine deacetylases (KDACs). The Neumann group device a strategy to create KDAC variants with increased selectivity towards particular types of lysine acylations using a novel selection system and use them to alter the acylation pattern of cells.
